How a small decision can turn your life around
In January 2017 my friend at work begged me to go to a slimming club with her. I was in complete denial about my weight and health. I had been overweight for years but convinced myself that clothes shops were making sizes smaller and that I probably just needed to do a little exercise to get healthier. I had no real interest in going and didn't think that slimming clubs worked.
In early February 2017 I finally gave in and went with her to Slimming World. I sat through the introductory talk and didn't really believe it would work. I didn't like the idea of low fat labelled food and didn't understand how you still eat chocolate and lose weight. When it came to the end of the session it was time for me to be weighed and set my target weight. I had a worst case scenario in my head for how much I weighed as I hadn't stepped on the scales in years. When I looked down at my weight I burst into tears. I weighed over a stone more than my worst case scenario weight. To be honest I hadn't believed that I could possibly even weigh as much as my worst case scenario!
At that point I made a decision. I knew I wanted to get to a healthy weight and this would be determined by having a healthy BMI, waist measurement, hip to waist ratio etc. I knew I owed it to myself to give Slimming World a try.
I followed the Slimming World plan and lost 3.5 lbs in the first week. The next week I lost 4.5 lbs and received my first award and sticker! I kept going and by the end of November 2017 I had lost 6 stone in weight and achieved my target.
I felt so much better. My blood pressure was fantastic. I didn't get out of breath walking up the stairs and best of all I didn't get sore legs from my thighs rubbing together (hi chub rub!) It had a huge affect on my confidence and improved my mental health.
This is NOT an advert for Slimming World. If you want to lose weight you need to find your own path and journey. Slimming World was mine. If you want to and need to lose weight, EMPOWER YOURSELF to lose weight. Empowerment is key to finding the willpower to succeed. Slimming World didn't make me lose weight. I made me lose weight. They were the tool that helped me do it.
This is an advert for making decisions in your life, to take the bull by the horns and just go and do it. Yes, you may well mess up a little on the way. It is fine to take a little detour or two (or ten) on your journey. What is important is that whatever the decision is, whatever change you want to make, keep going, you are doing it for you.
Be you. Be true. Be happy.
